John Pezzullo has been wearing the stripes for 40 seasons, beginning his career with the Fairfield County Football Officials Association in 1970. He credits much of what he learned by spending much of his early training years with the late Bernie Iassogna, a 2008 inductee into the CFOA Hall of Fame. Like many officials he learned his craft on the sub-varsity and Pop Warner fields of Fairfield County, honing his skills and his game-management abilities. He was with the Fairfield Board from 1970 until 1994, where he was named a crew chief, and then joined the Colonial Football Officials Association the next year. He is a 2004 selection as winner of the Vin Reilly Award for the CFOA, and was honored by the Fairfield County Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame in 2000 as its Officials Award winner. As a member of the Colonial Board he has served as the group's Vice-President, President and Chairman of its Better Officiating Committee. Pezzullo has worked seven CIAC playoff games over his career, extending back to his first one in 1986. In that first game he was the Line Judge. All subsequent assignments have been as referee. He has also worked the NFF All-Star game between New Haven and Fairfield counties on four occasions. Outside of football, he is a founding member and president of the Trumbull Technology Foundation. In 1998 he retired from Prudential Relocations, where he was Connecticut Manger of Vendor Relations. Prior to that he was in the corporate world and even taught for four years at St. Joseph's School, Brookfield. He is a graduate of Notre Dame-Fairfield High School (Class of 1966) and earned a bachelor's degree from Fairfield University in 1970. He holds a post-graduate degree from the University of Bridgeport. He has been married for 38 years to the former Barbara Ondecko.
